"I was brought up with art around me. James McNeil Whistler was the great uncle of my grandfather, the late Herbert Gallop, the well known artist and teacher at the National Art School. The walls of our house were adorned with oil paintings, watercolours and etchings"

On leaving school Peter briefly studied Architecture and then went on to The Julian Ashton Art School before travelling to London where he remained for five years.

"My grandfather always said that drawing was the key to good painting and I have endeavoured to keep this in mind throughout my painting career. To date I have painted over four thousand watercolours from my studios in Sydney and Berry on the South Coast of New South Wales.

'I have been influenced by the works of my grandfather, the wonderful figure paintings of Norman Lindsay and Frank Frazetta and the techniques of the American artist Royland Roycraft.'

In October 1990, after a long illness, Peter became the first Australian to have a combined heart and kidney transplant. The operation was a stunning success thanks to the skill and dedication of the doctors and nurses at St. Vincent’s Hospital.

Since the operation which is now an incredible seventeen years on, Peter has remarried, has two beautiful daughters and is enjoying his new life immensely.
